Having blogged for a year in this class, I think that I’ll continue to probably not blog (either on this or elsewhere on the web) because I’ve never heard of blogging until the beginning of this class this year and it doesn’t seem like hobby or casual activity I would spend time on. But doing all these blogs from the first to this one has made me feel like I learned a new experience and see that other people enjoy doing this stuff. Thank You Ms. Lake.
The Final Blog
May 16, 2010This Year’s Novels
May 10, 2010My List:
1. Romeo & Juliet
2. Animal Farm
3. Ender’s Game
4. Speak
5. The Glass Menagerie
6. Fahrenheit 451
7. Whirligig
8. A Midsummer Night’s Dream
9. Cold Sassy Tree
10. 1984
11. The Odyssey
12. Great Expectations
I’m going to describe my top three:
1) I like Romeo & Juliet the best because this was the first time I ever figured out the true story behind Romeo & Juliet. Before I read the play, I thought the story was just about two young teenagers who loved each other. After, I realized that it had so much drama like characters dying and also intense romance. That’s why it’s a tragedy, I guess. Anyways, it was funny, suspenseful and kept me focused into the story.
2)Animal Farm was interesting because of the fascinating use of symbolism and how it connected to the Russian Revolution.
3) Ender’s Game was just simply cool and it showed a lot of what boys go through like pain, endurance, and other moral things. I like that stuff.
Seuss’ Style
April 26, 2010An author who has a unique style to his writing is Dr.Seuss because he is known for his rhyming and imaginatave characters which was towards the audience of children. Also, his work had a moral to it that explained different lessons and also political views which was towards the audience of adults and older people. I adored his books like Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas when I was a kid and I still do.
Spring Break!
April 3, 2010Yes! It’s spring break. During this break, I am going camping at Lake Lanier with my church youth group from Sunday to Monday. This will be a new experience for me because it’ll be the first time that I’m going to actually sleep inside a tent in outdoor nature. Then when I come back home on Monday night, I’m hopefully going to watch the NCAA Championship Game since I’m a big college basketball fan. Blue Devils all the way! Then for the rest of the week, I’m going to be working mostly on my research project and hopefully get most my research done as well as other HW. Then on Friday to Saturday, I’m going to celebrate my younger brother’s birthday party but his actual B-Day’s on Tuesday 13th. Then we’re back to school. I’m so excited for this break but it’ll also be a busy one too.
Position in Tradition
March 28, 2010For my family since we are of the Korean culture, every New Year’s, we eat a certain dinner meal that I would enjoy eating almost every week. I have the golden opportunity to eat it on New Year’s unless my mom ever feels like making it and if we have the right ingedients and food. My family is the best and I’d never leave them. We have such great memories from family vacations to family accomplishents. However, some of that is gone since my older brother is in college and comes home not that often like for a normal family dinner. But that’ll be me someday and I guess I should bless and savor the moments I share now with my family members.
Group Work
March 22, 2010Although I think of myself as an independent person and student, this project really made me think that two is better than one. For this project, my partner and I got a lot of work done early and didn’t have to wait at the last minute to finish anything. So I’m really glad that with such a good partner I had, we finished on time and planned out everything that we were going to do. When a major grade is on the line, I guess group work is better because I won’t have to worry about the whole project just to myself and put pressure all over me. When I have a partner by my side, it makes the work easier and also, ideas flow along our brains to make even better ones.
Up and The Blind Side
March 15, 2010For this past year, I’d have to say my favortie movie or movie(s) had to be The Blind Side and also Up.
Why does Pixar always continue to never fail producing such creative and entertaining movies for all ages? When I first saw the trailer for Up and also Ratatouille, which was a great movie by the way, I thought they were going to be bad and not exciting at all. However, when I watched both of them whcih happened to take place at school, I couldn’t keep my eyes and attention off the movie. Pixar films seem to put a smile on my face and make me in a better mood whenever I’m feeling down, bored, or just not myself. That’s why I enjoy watching all the Pixar movies from when I was a kid to even now.
When I watched The Blind Side, it happened after I watched 2012 , which turned out to be a pretty bad movie, in my opinion, because the graphics were not what I expected and the acting, not so good. Yet my parents and little brother wanted to watch 2012 since they were interested in the topic of the end of the world and people saving themselves. Fortunately, this gave me another opportunity to watch another movie and luckily, The Blind Side was still out in theatres. So I decided to watch that and I was really entertained and liked the storyline. Since it’s about how a poor, abandoned, and confused boy becomes a football sensation and also a life changer for the family that adopted him, it seemed to joyously overcome my disappointment of watching 2012.
My Free Thoughts
March 7, 2010Well, I really don’t have much to say that’s not related to the unit; so I guess I’ll talk about something related to the unit. I thought Romeo & Juliet was a really good play and I enjoyed reading it because I never knew all these things actually occured in the real story. Well now I know. Also, the movie of the modern version of R & J was somewhat funny because it’s related to real people nowadays and not the people of the Shakespheare time period. Although the characters talk in the same dialect as the book, I still enjoyed because it connected the past with the present. Shakespheare really showed how love can conquer and be stronger than death.
Shakespheare’s Connection
February 27, 2010I think that Romeo and Juliet connects to our world today with teens falling in love and having a very stong and passionate relationship with each other. However, the age of the two lovers and the time they spend with each other planning for a marriage and their future doesn’tconnect. Teens nowadays rarely plan a marriage after meeting each other for the first time at a party or something like that and then planning to escape their freinds and family just for their love benefits of being in each other’s special presence. Also, parents telling their kids to have children at a young age is somewhat not good advice now because of all the work one has to do for a baby child, not attending school or having a babysitter, and just missing out life as an adolescent. I understand the love at first sight and always wanting to be with each other but definitely not the age of starting strong love and a relationship that goes beyond the ordinary as well as the parents’ view on things. It doesn’t seem right for a teen to start an adult life unprepared and at a young age.
4 Day weekend
February 15, 2010During this four day weekend, I’m not really going to do much like go somewhere special. I plan on just staying home with family and relaxing. Also, I’m going to sleep in and watch some TV like the winter olympics and some college basketball.
